The basic idea for the Friuli chair was to design a light-weight, comfortable and charming but affordable wooden (stacking-) chair to meet the different demands of everyday use in private, residential areas as well as in gastronomy, guest and hotel rooms.
We were deeply impressed by an anonymous stool from the early years of the 20th century which we found in a little museum in Austria.
With it´s modest appearance it should inspire us to concentrate on the importance of structure and typology as well as the requirements of production and the adequate use of wood - aiming for a chair, made to last, without any pretentions of glamour or style.
A chair designed as a `modest companion´ by doing something obvious, but not commonplace - in my opinion the only sensible option in a world where radical & avant-garde have reached the high streets and a public increasingly associate design with something only for special occasions, merely another sensational add-on to the world of normal everyday objects.
